3 Things to Know About the Convection Steam Oven.
While the technology of a Convection Steam Oven is not new, these ovens are just beginning to emerge in the mainstream domestic appliance market. Here at Riverwoods, the CSO is one of our favorite appliances by far. It prepares an endless array of foods better, quicker, and in some cases, healthier. So what is a CSO? It is an oven that combines the element of steam with convection heat. Though this oven might look different than a traditional oven, it can do much, much more. Combine steam with other modes, and you can cook literally anything.
Some of you might have heard about these “magical” ovens and contemplating if you should get one. Below are some facts about we want every future steam oven owner to know.
1. It works just like a regular convection oven—only better.
Most people get hung up on the word “steam” and forget there is a convection element within the steam oven. After all, it is called a Convection Steam Oven. The CSO can get up to 440° and brown food just like regular oven. We even argue that it cooks food on convection better than a wall or range oven. How? Unlike a wall or range oven that allows moisture to escape from the oven cavity, the steam oven retains more natural moisture within the food than any other oven. This means muffins, cakes, casseroles, meat, etc. retain their moisture while the oven cooks them to golden brown perfection.
2. It’s small cavity is its best feature.
Bigger doesn’t necessarily mean better. The interior of the CSO is a lot smaller than regular ovens by a long shot, but that doesn’t mean it is less superior. Think of the last couple meals you made in your regular oven and we bet they would fit in the steam oven. The oven is a master at multi-level cooking. For example, you can cook veggies, protein, and a bowl of rice all at once. Also, the oven takes far less time to heat up. Only 3 minutes to get to 325° to quickly bake off a dozen cookies. Need another reason why size is one of its best features? Its small cavity also makes it easier to clean. Food splatter has far less oven space to dirty in a steam oven making clean up that much easier to get done.
3. The steam function.
This might be an obvious one, but the steam function on the “steam oven” really is one of its best qualities. But it is so much more than just steaming vegetables. The amount of things you can do with the power of steam is exciting when you realize its full potential. Poaching, sous vide, proofing, defrost, reheat, and more are effortless with the steam function and produce better results.
